People often ask me when is the best time to get pre-approved for a home? I believe its best to get pre-approved at least 3 months before you start searching, but really the earlier the better. The reason you want to get pre-approved early is so you know what type of loan your going to use and exactly how much its going to cost you out of pocket to complete the purchase. Every loan is different and they offer different amounts of closing costs and different obligations such as PMI or escrowing your taxes.
